How to tame an axolotl in Minecraft?

In Minecraft, taming an axolotl is not the same as taming other animals like wolves or cats. However, you can befriend an axolotl and keep it as a pet by following these steps. Axolotls are aquatic mobs that are found in underground water caves, and they have some fun behaviors when you interact with them.

Steps to Befriend and Keep an Axolotl:

1. Find an Axolotl:

  • Axolotls can be found in lush caves (introduced in Minecraft 1.17). They spawn naturally in dark water sources in these caves.
  • Axolotls can appear in different colors, including pink, yellow, brown, and blue (the rarest).

2. Use a Bucket to Catch the Axolotl:

  • To "tame" an axolotl, you can use a bucket to capture it. This will allow you to take it with you and keep it as a pet.
    • Craft a bucket using 3 iron ingots.
    • Right-click on an axolotl (or use the interact button) while holding the empty bucket to scoop up the axolotl.
    • This will place the axolotl in the bucket, and you can carry it around in your inventory.

3. Release the Axolotl into Water:

  • Once you have an axolotl in a bucket, you can release it into any body of water by right-clicking (or the interact button) on a water source while holding the bucket with the axolotl.
  • The axolotl will start swimming and living in the water. You can place it in a tank or let it roam freely in your aquatic environments.

4. Feeding Axolotls:

  • Axolotls can be fed with tropical fish. To feed them:
    • Catch tropical fish using a bucket.
    • Right-click on the axolotl (or interact) while holding a bucket of tropical fish to feed it.
    • This will make the axolotl love you and allow you to breed axolotls if you want.

5. Breeding Axolotls:

  • You can breed axolotls by feeding two axolotls tropical fish.
    • Once both are fed, they will enter love mode, and a baby axolotl will spawn.
    • Keep in mind that axolotls can also follow you once they are tamed, but they are naturally aquatic and will not move far from the water.

6. Healing Axolotls:

  • If an axolotl is injured, it will regenerate health over time, but you can speed up the process by feeding it tropical fish.

Bonus: Unique Axolotl Abilities:

  • Healing: Axolotls can heal you if you are injured. When you are in water, they can heal you over time if you are near them.
  • Protection: Axolotls can fight off hostile mobs underwater, making them great companions if you're in aquatic areas or dealing with hostile mobs like drowned.

Conclusion:

While axolotls cannot be "tamed" in the traditional sense, you can still befriend them by catching them with a bucket, feeding them tropical fish, and having them follow you or breed them for more. They are great pets for underwater exploration and a fun addition to any aquatic or lush cave setup!
