Is Vision dead forever?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Vision is not necessarily dead forever, but his fate is complicated. Here's a breakdown of what happens to Vision and the possibilities for his future:

Vision's Fate in the MCU:

  1. "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018):
    • In "Infinity War", Vision is killed by Thanos. In order to obtain the Mind Stone, which is embedded in Vision's forehead, Thanos forces Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) to destroy it. Despite Wanda’s efforts to destroy the stone, Thanos uses the Time Stone to reverse time and takes the Mind Stone from Vision, ultimately killing him in the process.
  2. "Avengers: Endgame" (2019):
    • Vision's death in "Infinity War" is a significant event in the MCU, but in "Endgame", the Avengers manage to reverse the snap caused by Thanos using the Infinity Stones. However, Vision does not return in the same form, since his body was destroyed when Thanos killed him.
    • Wanda Maximoff later plays a crucial role in the recovery of Vision's essence in "WandaVision" (2021), which we'll discuss below.

"WandaVision" (2021) and the Return of Vision:

In the Disney+ series "WandaVision", it is revealed that Wanda Maximoff, grieving Vision's loss, creates a manifestation of him in a pocket reality. This version of Vision is essentially a created version, formed from Wanda’s emotional and mental state, but he doesn't have the same memories of his past life.

  • White Vision: At the end of the series, the real body of Vision is located, but it is reactivated by S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division), creating a "White Vision"—a version of Vision without his memories or the Mind Stone. He is essentially a blank slate, with the potential to evolve into a more fully realized version of himself. In the end, White Vision leaves, and his future is left open-ended.

What’s Next for Vision in the MCU?

  • "Multiverse of Madness" (2022) and beyond: The events of the multiverse in the MCU could also play a role in Vision’s future. Since the multiverse is now an established element, there are potential versions of Vision from alternate universes, including different versions of the character from other realities (for example, the Vision from the multiverse).
  • "Secret Wars" (2026): As Marvel continues to explore the multiverse and prepare for the upcoming Secret Wars event in the MCU, there may be additional versions of Vision from different universes or timelines.

Is Vision Dead Forever?

  • Not necessarily. While the original Vision is dead as a result of Thanos' actions in Infinity War, the character could return in a variety of ways:
    • White Vision, now with his original body, is alive, but his memories and consciousness have been altered. It's unclear if he will ever fully regain his previous persona or develop a new one.
    • Alternate versions of Vision could emerge from the multiverse in future MCU stories, which may involve interactions with other characters like Scarlet Witch or Doctor Strange.
As Marvel is constantly expanding its universe, particularly with multiverse and alternate realities, Vision's return—whether in his original form or a new one—remains a possibility.
