Why does Sukuna hate Itadori?
Share
Sukuna's hatred towards Itadori Yuji from Jujutsu Kaisen is a result of their initial, forced bond and the fact that Itadori is the one who houses Sukuna’s cursed power.
Here’s why Sukuna holds disdain for Itadori:
-
Hostility of Being Bound: Sukuna is an ancient and powerful cursed spirit who was once feared by many. He never wanted to be bound to another human being, especially not to someone like Itadori. Sukuna is extremely prideful and doesn't want to be at the mercy of a human host.
-
Control Over the Body: Although Sukuna can temporarily take control of Itadori’s body, he cannot do so freely. Itadori retains control over himself most of the time, and this constant struggle between them is a major source of Sukuna's anger. Sukuna, as a cursed spirit, believes that humans are inferior and does not like having to share a body with one.
-
Itadori’s Unwillingness: Itadori, being a kind-hearted and good person, despises Sukuna and fights him at every turn. Sukuna, in contrast, sees Itadori as weak, and this lack of respect is something that breeds irritation and contempt. Sukuna's view of humans is that they are beneath him, and being forced into cooperation with someone he sees as inferior fuels his resentment.
-
The Need for Yuji’s Death: Initially, Sukuna wanted to get rid of Itadori altogether, and even when it became clear that Itadori would not die easily, Sukuna continued to toy with him and manipulate situations for his own amusement.
Though Sukuna is often portrayed as a villain, his interactions with Itadori showcase the complex relationship between them, filled with animosity and grudging respect. The two are often at odds because of their inherent differences, yet there are hints that Sukuna is starting to develop a certain interest in Itadori’s potential.
