Will Xbox make a handheld?

As of January 2025, Microsoft has confirmed plans to develop an Xbox handheld console. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Gaming CEO, acknowledged that the company is working on a handheld device, though he emphasized that it is "a few years out."

Current Developments:

  • Integration of Xbox and Windows: Microsoft is focusing on merging Xbox and Windows experiences to enhance handheld gaming. This initiative aims to create a unified operating system that combines elements of both platforms, simplifying Windows and adding Xbox functionality to support joystick and thumbstick interactions.

  • Cloud Gaming Devices: In the meantime, Microsoft has partnered with Logitech to offer the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld, a device that allows users to play Xbox games via cloud streaming. This 7-inch Full HD touchscreen device provides a portable gaming experience, though it relies on a stable internet connection for cloud gaming.

Conclusion:

While an official Xbox handheld console is in development, it is expected to be released in the coming years. In the interim, Microsoft is enhancing the handheld gaming experience through software integration and partnerships with existing cloud gaming devices.
