Who does Vegeta fear the most?

Vegeta, the proud Saiyan prince, is known for his immense strength and arrogance, but even he has his limits and fears. While he’s an incredibly strong fighter and prides himself on being one of the strongest in the universe, there are a few beings that Vegeta fears the most.

1. Frieza

The most prominent and well-known fear in Vegeta's life is Frieza. During the early Dragon Ball Z series, Frieza is the tyrannical leader who destroys Planet Vegeta, the home of the Saiyan race. Vegeta, as the prince of the Saiyans, is deeply affected by this traumatic event. He spends much of his life serving Frieza out of fear and a sense of forced loyalty, as Frieza is the one who holds the power to destroy him and his people. Even though Vegeta grows more powerful over time, Frieza remains a figure of intense fear and loathing for him. However, this fear evolves into hatred and a desire for revenge after Vegeta’s many battles with Frieza.

Vegeta’s Fear of Frieza:

  • Emotional Impact: Vegeta’s fear of Frieza is deeply rooted in the destruction of his home planet and his position as a servant for so long. Despite becoming stronger, Frieza’s power still scares Vegeta, even when he fights Frieza later on.
  • The Emotional Moment: The most telling moment of Vegeta’s fear comes during their battle on Namek. Even as Vegeta fights Frieza with everything he has, the trauma of his past is ever-present. In the Dragon Ball Super series, Frieza’s return causes Vegeta to confront his deep hatred and fear of his former tormentor.

2. Goku’s Strength

While Vegeta may not openly admit it, Goku’s constant growth and limitless potential is something that often strikes fear in Vegeta. For much of the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super series, Vegeta has always tried to surpass Goku, but Goku’s ability to continuously break his limits and unlock new transformations—especially Ultra Instinct—has left Vegeta both amazed and frustrated.

Vegeta’s Fear of Goku’s Potential:

  • Constant Rivalry: Vegeta has always seen Goku as his ultimate rival. Goku’s ability to continuously grow stronger, sometimes even surpassing Vegeta, can be intimidating for him.
  • Unpredictability: Goku’s battle instincts, especially with transformations like Super Saiyan Blue and Ultra Instinct, sometimes overwhelm Vegeta, making him realize that no matter how hard he trains, Goku’s natural ability to exceed his limits is something he can’t always control or predict.

3. Beerus (God of Destruction)

While not necessarily a "fear" in the traditional sense, Vegeta has a deep respect and caution towards Beerus, the God of Destruction. Beerus is shown to be overwhelmingly powerful, and Vegeta understands the consequences of angering someone as strong as Beerus.

Vegeta’s Fear of Beerus:

  • Fear of Destruction: Beerus is known for his temper and power, and Vegeta has seen firsthand what happens when Beerus gets upset (especially in the Dragon Ball Super series). The destruction that Beerus is capable of makes Vegeta cautious and respectful of his power.
  • A Realization of Limits: Despite being a Saiyan prince, Vegeta recognizes the huge gap in power between himself and a God of Destruction like Beerus. This understanding contributes to a healthy fear of Beerus' wrath.

4. The Unknown

While Vegeta is confident in his strength and constantly trains to overcome any challenges, there is always the fear of encountering an opponent who is beyond his limits. As we see in Dragon Ball Super and beyond, there are still many powerful beings in the universe (such as other Gods of Destruction, Zeno, etc.) that Vegeta has not yet encountered.

In Summary:

  • Frieza remains the most significant and personal fear for Vegeta, as his past with Frieza haunts him.
  • Goku's constant power growth has always been a challenge to Vegeta’s pride.
  • Beerus’ overwhelming power serves as a reminder that there are beings far beyond Vegeta’s strength.
  • The fear of the unknown and what lies beyond his current capabilities also plays a subtle role in Vegeta’s psyche.

Vegeta’s pride may not allow him to show weakness, but it’s clear that even the strongest warriors have their fears—whether they are rooted in past trauma, rivalries, or the realization of limits beyond their control.
